We had a lot to live up to when Pete and I moved into Crud yr Awel almost two years ago as the garden was immaculate!
The previous owners had built the property and laid out the gardens 40 years ago and spent all their spare time growing vegetables and establishing an abundance of mature planting. It was indeed a hard act to follow.
However, there were enough potatoes to feed the British Army we could never have eaten that amount so we decided to reduce the amount of "vegetable garden” that we had by almost a third and revamp into a lawn and mixed flower borders.
There was still plenty of space to grow all the vegetables that we needed in the 4 raised beds and 2 greenhouses.
Last year was a bit of trial and error on the flower side in deciding what was best where. We had some disasters but also some successes.
Who knows what this year will end up like? But I know I will have a bumper crop of rhubarb and tomatoes if last year is anything to go by!
