The Club is now working with staff at the NationalWoolMuseum, and an expert in natural dyeing, to clear and replant four raised beds with plants that can be used in natural dyeing workshops next year. The local school, Ysgol Penboyr, have also been asked to get involved in the project through their Eco Group and Support Teacher. If you are willing to get involved, please see Rena.
Future work will involve planting and maintaining the beds.
Drefach Felindre Gardening Club is constantly looking for ways to get involved in the local community, either through support or active involvement. We endeavour to encourage people into the very fulfilling experience of gardening. We welcome any ideas that would facilitate this and, in doing so, bring the community together in a way that would benefit all.
The local carnival in July has been supported by the club for many years. Previously a float has been entered into the competition and then plants have been sold off afterwards. 2011 saw the club take a different approach as it set up a plant stall for the first time. This proved very successful and provided some of the funds that are invaluable in supporting local charities. In 2012 a much bigger and better stand was evident and continues to be. We thank all who provide plants and look forward to each successive year and more donated plants!
The Club works closely with YSGOL PENBOYR (the local primary school). Club members are encouraged to help in the school garden and share their knowledge with the children.
We already work closely with the school by providing seeds, pots and compost each year. The annual show also provides a platform for exhibiting the children’s artwork that has been produced especially for the event. A cup is awarded each year to the overall winner and rosettes are presented in the school assembly.
